Jerry Zimmerman, a catcher who played in 483 games in eight seasons in the major leagues, died on Sept. 9, 1998 in Neskowin, Ore.

He hit .204 in 994 career at-bats with three home runs and 72 RBI.

Zimmerman had bounced around the minor leagues until April 14, 1961 when he made his debut with Cincinnati. The Reds traded him in January 1962 to the Twins for Dan Dobbek.

With Minnesota, he became the backup for catcher Earl Battey.

He appeared in four World Series games -- two in 1961 for the Reds and two in 1965 with Minnesota. He was hitless in his only World Series at-bat.

From 1969 to 1975, he a bullpen coach in the major leagues.
