Norm Zauchin, who hit 50 home runs in his career, died on Jan. 31, 1999 in Birmingham, Ala.

He hit .233 in his career with 50 home runs and 159 RBI. He collected 242 hits in 1,038 major league at-bats.

Zauchin made his debut with the Red Sox in 1951, appearing in 5 games. In 1955, he took over at first base following the death of Harry Agganis and had the best year of his career, hitting .239 with 27 home runs and 93 RBI.  On May 27, 1955, Zauchin put together a monster of a game against Washington. He hit three home runs and a double to drive in 10 runs in a 16-0 victory.

In his career, he played for Boston (1951, 1955-1957) and Washington (1958-59).

Following his baseball career, he was an account executive with Hart Hanks Company.
