Chris Zachary, a pitcher who won 10 games in nine seasons in the major leagues, died on April 19, 2003, at the age of 59. According to published reports, Zachary had been battling cancer.

His pitching career took off at Central High School in Knoxville, Tenn. From there, he made the jump to pitching in the major leagues for the expansion Houston Colt .45s in 1963.

He never had a winning season, posting a 3-10 mark in 1971 with St. Louis. However, in 1972, he was 1-1 with a 1.41 ERA in 25 games for Detroit when the Tigers won the Division Championship.

In 1970, the St. Louis Cardinals traded pitcher Ted Abernathy to the Kansas City Royals to acquire Zachary.
