Don Wheeler, a catcher who appeared in 67 games for the White Sox in 1949, died on Dec. 10, 2003 in Minneapolis, Minn. He was 81.
His baseball career included time with the Minneapolis Millers. In his major league career, Wheeler hit .240 with a home run and 22 RBI.
Following his career in baseball, Wheeler worked as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and also officiated high school and college sports. According to his obituary, he was a penalty time keeper for the Minnesota North Stars and worked the sidelines at Vikings games for 32 years.
