After a strong debut with the Boston Braves in 1926, Johnny Werts, a native of Pomaria, South Carolina, found limited success in major league baseball.
In 1926, Werts finished with an 11-9 record in 189.1 innings for the Braves. In 23 starts, he tallied seven complete games and finished the season with a 3.28 earned run average.
The next season, he finished with a 4-10 record and a 4.55 earned run average.
