Lou Thuman, who pitched for Washington, died on Dec. 19, 2000 following a battle with pneumonia. Thuman pitched in 5 major league games for a total of 9 innings. He finished 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA.
Thuman began his military service in April 1940 and was one of the first baseball players to enter the service. During the D-Day invasion, he was wounded by a bullet from a sniper and the injury prevented him from returning to a career in baseball.
