Thomason pitched for Erskine College and is tied for the Erskine record for most strikeouts in a game. In 1970, Thomason struck out 18 batters in a game against Wofford. That year, Thomason earned an honorable mention for NAIA All-American. Two other former Erskine players have appeared in Major League Baseball - Jim Fairey and Eric Moody.
