Reggie Taylor, an outfielder in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, has seen limited action at the Major League level, but has become a proven outfielder in the Phillies minor league organization.
As a senior at Newberry High School in 1995, Taylor hit . 452 and was honored with an All-American selection. In June 1995, the Phillies selected Taylor in the first round as the 14th overall pick.
In 1999, he led the Phillies minor league system with 10 triples. In the offseason, while playing winter baseball, he dislocated his shoulder. The injury required surgery and Taylor was sidelined until May 2000.
When he returned, he joined the lineup of AAA Scranton. In his second game back from the injury, he became the second Scranton player ever to collect 5 hits in a game. He played in 89 games that season and matched his career high of 15 home runs. He was a September callup for the Phillies and collected his first Major League hit on September 29, 2000.
In 2001, he hit .263 for Scranton with 7 home runs, 50 RBI and 31 stolen bases. He received a September callup from the Phillies and saw some limited action.
In March 2002, the Phillies traded Taylor to the Reds for a Player to be named later. That player ended up being Hector Mercado.
