Vernon Charles "Pete" Taylor, whose major league career involved a single game on May 2, 1952 with the St. Louis Browns, died on Nov. 17, 2003 of a stroke. He was 75.
Taylor pitched in a single game in the major leagues, allowing 3 earned runs and 3 walks in 2 innings pitched.
According to his obituary, Taylor served in the Army in World War II before signing with the Orioles in 1945. In 1946, he was named MVP of the Class B Colonial League after finishing 11-3 for Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
In 1948, he pitched 250 innings and won 10 games for Wilkes Barre, Pa., of the Class A Eastern League. He also played for the Baltimore Orioles before reaching the major leagues in 1952 for a single game with the Browns.
According to his obituary, he pitched a three-hitter and nine-hitter in the Dixie Series before the Texas and Southern leagues in 1954 while he was a member of Oklahoma City.
He was married in 1959 and moved to Millersville. He worked as a salesman for Potomac Corrugated Box Co. in Baltimore before opening Atlas Corrugated Box in 1968. He sold that company in 1988.
