Andy Spognardi had a brief career with the Boston Red Sox, batting .294 in 17 games. He died on Jan. 1, 2000 at the age of 91.
The next season, however, he decided to attend Tufts Medical School instead of returning to play baseball. He practiced medicine as a family doctor until her retired in 1988.
