A decorated veteran of World War II and a journeyman baseball player, Steve Souchock died on July 28, 2002.
The first baseman and outfielder spent parts of 8 seasons from 1946 to 1955 with three major league teams. Once of his most productive seasons came in 1949 when he played 84 games for the White Sox. Despite just 252 at-bats and a .234 average, Souchock hit seven home runs to lead the team.
He appeared in 89 games for Detroit in 1953 and had 278 at-bats. He hit .302 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI.
His obituary in the Detroit News listed Souchock as a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and a member of Patton's 3rd of the Army.
