Fred Sington, who hit .271 in his major league career, died on Aug. 20, 1998 in Birmingham, Ala.
Sington hit seven home runs and drove in 85 runs in 516 at-bats over six seasons in the major leagues. His most productive season came in 1937 when he hit .237 in 228 at-bats for Washington, connecting on three home runs and driving in 36 runs.
He played for Washington (1934-1937) and Brooklyn (1938-1939) in his career.
