Barry Shetrone, an outfielder for Baltimore and Washington from 1959 to 1963, died in 2001 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1958 and was called up to the team in 1959. He often asked his teammates, including Brooks Robinson and Boog Powell, over to his mother's house for crab cakes. He played the most in his first season with Baltimore, in 1959, when he had 16 hits in 79 at-bats. Shetrone hit .203 with five RBI and three SB. Following his baseball career, Shetrone was active in championship softball and was inducted into the Maryland Softball Hall of Fame. |
