Sam Rice's standout, 20-year career earned him a place in Baseball's Hall of Fame. Rice collected 2,987 hits in his career that ran from 1915 to 1934.

He played in 2,404 games in the major league -- the majority of those came with Washington. The last 97 games of his career came with the Cleveland Indians.

He hit .322 with 34 home runs and 1,078 RBI. He had 351 stolen bases in his career and scored 1,514 runs. In 1925, he had career highs in hitting (.350) and in RBI (87). That season, he hit 182 singles.

Rice came to the Major Leagues in 1915 as a pitcher. He pitched 39.1 innings in the majors during the 1915 and 1916 seasons, recording a 1-1 recored and a 2.52 ERA with 12 strikeouts.

He led the American League in triples in 1923 with 18 and in stolen bases in 1920 with 63. He led the league in hits in 1924 and 1926.

Rice played in three World Series -- 1924, 1925 and 1933. In the 1925 loss to Pittsburgh, he hit .364 with three RBI in 33 at-bats.

Rice was was elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1963 by the Veterans Committee.
