Britt Reames, born in Seneca, South Carolina, got the chance to play for the 2000 NL Central winning St. Louis Cardinals. Reames' was called up from AAA Memphis after Cardinals' pitcher Andy Benes was injured. Reames pitched 40.2 innings and complied a 2-1 record with a 2.88 earned run average. He pitched in 8 games for the Cardinals, starting seven.
In the divisional series, Reames was 1-0 and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings against the Braves. He allowed one run in 6.1 innings against the New York Mets in the NLCS. Following the 2000 season, Reames was involved in a trade that sent him to the Montreal Expos.
As a minor league player, Reames has a lifetime record of 31-20 in 69 starts with a 2.70 earned run average. In 1995, he played for New Jersey of the New York-Penn League and Savannah of the South Atlantic League. In 1996, he compiled a 15-7 record and a 1.90 EAR at A-Peoria and was named the Cardinals' pitcher of the year.
His career was sidelined by "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow and he did not pitch in 1997 or 1998. He returned to pitch for Potomic of the A-Carolina League in 1999. In 2000, he pitched for AA Arkansas and AAA Memphis before being called up to St. Louis.
Reames played baseball for The Citadel from 1993-95 and finished his college career with an 18-7 record, 2.04 ERA and 296 strikeouts in 229 innings pitched. He was an All-Southern Conference player in 1994 and 1995.
