>> Visit the John Powers biography on Baseball Almanac for complete statistics. John Powers, an outfielder who spent parts of six seasons in the major leagues, died on Sept. 25, 2001. He debuted with the Pittsburgh Pirates on spent six years in Major League Baseball, playing for the Pirates, Reds, Orioles and Indians. Powers was an outfielder and appeared in 151 games, hitting .195. In January 1959, the Pirates traded Powers, along with Whammy Douglas, Jim Pendleton and Frank Thomas, to the Cincinnati Reds for Smoky Burgess, Harvey Haddix and Don Hoak. In December of that year, the Reds sold his contract to the Orioles. In May 1960, he was claimed off waivers by the Indians. He returned to Pittsburgh in June 1960 when the Indians traded him for Hank Foiles. |
