Lou Polli, one of the oldest former players at the time of his death, died on Dec. 19, 2000, at the age of 99.
In two major league seasons, the pitcher compiled an 0-2 record and a 4.60 ERA in 43 innings.
Born in Italy, he came to American with his family when he was seven months old to join his father who was working in granite quarries in Vermont.
He signed with the New York Yankees in 1927 and played in the team's minor league system. He debuted in the major leagues with the St. Louis Browns in 1932 at the age of 30.
He pitched again for the New York Giants in 1944.
In the minor leagues, he is credited with 3 no-hitters including the last professional game he played. After retiring as a player, he managed a semi-pro team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
He worked in the granite quarries and also served as constable, tax collector and town agent in Barre Town.
