Norm McRae Norman McRae
>> Visit the Norm McRae biography on Baseball Almanac for complete statistics. Norm McRae, a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers from 1969-70, died July 28, 2003 in Garland, Texas. He had been battling cancer; he was 55. McRae was 17 years old when the Tigers took interest and, after finding some success in the minors, he debuted with the Tigers in 1969, pitching in 3 games. He pitched in 19 games in 1970 and, prior to the 1971 season, he was traded to the Senators along with Denny McLain, Don Wert and Elliott Maddox for Aurelio Rodriguez, Ed Brinkman, Joe Coleman and Jim Hannan. He never appeared again in the major leagues. From 1972 to 1981, he played in the Mexican League and then worked as a coach in the league from 1981 to 1984. He later worked as a recruiter in the Mexican League. In 1995, he and his wife moved to Garland, Texas, and he worked as a manager for Long John Silvers. Source: Dallas Morning News online. |
