Willard Marshall who had an 11-year career as an outfielder died on Nov. 5, 2000.

In 1942, he made the New York Giants roster in spring training. He hit .257 that season with 11 home runs and 59 RBI. His career was put on hold in 1943 when he began three years of service in the military during World War II.

He returned to the Giants in 1946 and hit .282 with 13 home runs.  His best season in the majors came in 1947 when he hit .291 with 36 home runs and 107 RBI for the Giants. On July 18, he hit 3 consecutive home runs in a game against the Reds. 

In 1949, the Giants traded Willard Marshall, Sid Gordon, Buddy Kerr and Sam Webb to the Braves for Alvin Dark and Eddie Stanky. He played for the Braves from 1950 to 1952 when he was sent to the Reds.

In Dec. 1953, the Reds traded Marshall to the White Sox for Rocky Krsnich, Connie Ryan and Saul Rogovin.
