Joe Lovitto, who played for Texas from 1972 to 1975, died on May 19, 2001 in Arlington, Texas. He had been battling cancer.

The outfielder hit .216 in his career with 4 home runs, 53 RBI and 22 SB in 763 at-bats.

He started in centerfield on Opening Day of 1972 -- the first game in Texas. He hit .224 that season with a home run and 19 RBI in 330 at-bats.  He would not hit above the .224 mark in his next 3 seasons.

In 1975, Lovitto was traded to the New York Mets for OF Gene Clines..
