Tim Layana Timothy Joseph Layana

Tim Layana, who pitched for parts of three seasons in the major leagues, died June 26, 1999, in Bakersfield, Calif., after an accident. He was 35. Layana was ejected from his car when it was broadsided by another vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt. He was drafted in June 1986 by the Yankees in the 3rd round of the amateur draft and was selected by the Reds in 1989 from the Yankees in the Rule V draft. He debuted with the Reds in 1990 and had his most productive season in the majors, finishing 5-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 80 innings pitched. |
