Mickey Kreitner, who played in the major leagues in the 1940s, died on March 6, 2003, from complications of open heart surgery.
Kreitner, a catcher, played 32 games for the Cubs from 1943-44, hitting .172 with 3 RBIs. An injury brought his career to an end in 1944.
He got an early start in baseball. As a child, he was a bat-boy for the Nashville Vols.
Following baseball, Krietner would own and operate 39 restaurants over the course of 43 years, according to his obituary.
