Russ Kerns who was hitless in a single at-bat with the Detroit Tigers in 1945 died on Aug. 21, 2000 in Placerville, Calif.
His professional career, including the minor leagues, lasted from 1939 to 1953. His career included playing for the Toledo Glass Sox (later, the Mud Hens).
Following his career, he worked in construction of grain storage bins.
