Tim Jones, a native of Sumter, was a true utility player in Major League baseball. In 252 career games, Jones appeared in 119 as a shortstop, 78 at second base, 14 at third base, two in the outfield, 1 at catcher and 1 at pitcher.
In his six seasons with the Cardinals, Jones hit .233 in 485 at-bats, hitting a home run, driving in 28 runs and stealing 15 bases in 25 attempts.
Jones made his lone pitching appearance during the 1990 season. In 1.1 innings pitcher, he allowed an earned run and walked two batters.
