Chief Hogsett Elon Chester Hogsett

In his 11-year career in Major League Baseball, Hogsett pitched 1,222 innings, finishing with a 63-87 record and a 5.02 ERA. He played for the Tigers from 1929-1936, for the Browns from 1936-37, for the Senators in 1938 and for the Tigers again in 1944. His best season came in 1932 when he finished with an 11-9 record, 7 saves and a 3.54 ERA. In 1936, during his first appearance with the Browns, Hogsett walked four batters in an inning to set a major league record. After the 1938 season, Hogsett returned to AAA where he pitched for six years before receiving a brief call-up from the Tigers in 1944 when he was 40. He pitched 8.1 innings in the 1934 and 1935 World Series. |
