Ron Herbel, who pitched to a 42-37 record in the Major Leagues, died on Jan. 20, 2000 in Tacoma, Wash..

Herbel spent much of the early part of his career splitting time between starting and relief work. His career high in wins game in 1965 when he won 12. That year, he started 21 games and pitched one complete game.

In 1978, he split the season between San Diego and the Mets and he led the National League with appearances in 76 games.

Herbel is listed as having a career batting average of .029 (6 hits in 206 at-bats). It is, according to sources, the lowest career batting average ever for a player with at least 100 at-bats.
