Andy Hansen was used primarily as a relief pitcher during his 9 seasons in Major League baseball. He played for the New York Giants from 1944 to 1950 and with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1951 to 1953.

His biggest single year came in 1948 when he pitched 100 innings in 36 games for the Giants. He posted a 5-3 record with a save and posted a 2.97 ERA.

In 1945 and 1950, he finished third in the league with 9 and 10 saves respectively.

On January 13, 1954, the Pirates traded Murray Dickson to the Phillies for pitcher Andy Hansen and IF Jack Lucky Lohrke. Hansen never pitched in the majors again.
