Earl Francis pitched in 103 games in his 6-year career in Major League baseball. He was a member of the 1960 World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates and he was the team's opening day starter in 1963.

Francis died on July 3, 2002 at the age of 66 after a long battle with diabetes.

Born in Slab Fork, West Virginia on July 14, 1935, Francis debuted with the Pirates in 1960, pitching in 7 games and finishing with a 1-0 record and a 2.00 ERA. He was a member of the World Series squad, but did not play against the Yankees.

He pitched in 103 games (101 with the Pirates and 2 with the Cardinals) and made 52 stars. He finished with a 16-23 record and a 3.77 ERA.

His best season came in 1962 when he was 9-8 with a 3.07 ERA in 176 innings.

Following his career in baseball, Francis lived in Shaler Township in suburban Pittsburgh and worked for the Giant Eagle grocery store chain.
