Alva Russell Derry

Russ Derry, who hit 17 home runs in 553 career at-bats in the major leagues, died on Oct. 26, 2004 in Princeton, Missouri. He was 88.
Derry hit .224 in his 187 career games over four seasons.
His most productive season came in 1945 when he hit .225 with 13 home runs and 45 RBI. According to his obituary, Derry hit two home runs on opening day.
In 1949, he hit 42 home runs for the Rochester Red Wings and he holds the team record with 134 home runs in six seasons from 1947 to 1952. According to reports, he was chosen as a charter member of the Red Wings Hall of Fame and he was selected in 2000 by a fan vote to the Red Wings Century Team.
