When he started playing baseball, Jimmie Coker was a rancher in Throckmorton, Texas.
Coker, born in Holly Hill, S.C., played in 233 games in the major leagues over 9 seasons.
For the most part, he found himself in the role of the No. 3 catcher. In 1960, he had a career-high 252 at-bats for the Phillies, hitting .214 with 6 home runs and 34 RBI. He spent the entire 1965 season with the Reds, but appeared in just 24 games.
Before signing with the Phillies, Coker played football and basketball for Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
Following baseball, he returned to his life as a rancher.
