Bob Carpenter, a pitcher who won 25 games in the major leagues, died on Oct. 19, 2005 in Evergreen Park, Ill. He was 87.
Carpenter made his major league debut in 1940 with the New York Giants. His career numbers include a 25-20 record, two saves and a 3.60 ERA in 399.2 innings pitched. He recorded 134 strikeouts in this career.
He won 11 games in each of the 1941 and 1942 seasons while pitching for the Giants. He pitched a career-high 185.2 innings in the 1942 season, recording 53 strikeouts and a 3.15 ERA.
Following that season, he spent three years in the military during World War II.
His career included major-league stopes with the Giants (1940-1941, 1946-47) and the Chicago Cubs (1947).
According to his obituary, Carpenter was a former partner of F.I. DuPont and a former member of the Chicago Board of Trade.
