Don Carlsen, who made his debut with the Cubs in 1948, died on Sept. 22, 2002 at the age of 75. He pitched one inning for the Cubs in his debut year.

Three years later, he returned to the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates and appeared in 12 games between 1951 and 1952.
