Nelson Burbrink, who appeared in 58 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1955, died on April 11, 2001. Burbrink, who was the No. 3 catcher for the Cardinals that season, hit .276 in 170 at-bats with 15 RBIs.

Burbrink became a major league scout and signed Tom Seaver to a contract with the New York Mets in 1966.  In 1968, he became the Mets director of scouting and helped to build the team that won the 1969 World Series.

From 1973-77, he served as director of player development for New York.  In 1978, he joined the Brewers' organization and served as a scout until he retired in 1992.
