Ike Brown played for the Detroit Tigers from 1969 to 1974 and was a true fan favorite.

"He was a very popular player with his teammates," said Tigers broadcaster Jim Price in a Detroit News article on Brown's death. "A great role player and also a great fighter. He roomed with Gates Brown, who said Ike would wake up every morning saying, 'It's a beautiful day' whether it was or not.

Price played with Brown for three seasons.

Brown made his way to the Tigers after his contract was purchased from the Negro Leagues' Kansas City Monarchs in 1961. He made it to the Major Leagues in 1969.

In the minor leagues, he once played all the positions in the same game. In the majors, he worked as a utility player and once called himself the team's "Designated Sitter."

In the 1972 American League Championship Series, he collected a hit and 2 RBI in two at-bats.
