Pitching for Vera Cruz of the Mexican League from 1939-41, Brown posted 3 consecutive 16-win seasons, including leading the league in victories in 1941. In the Negro National League in 1942, he posted a 9-12 record with the Philadelphia Stars and was third in the league in victories. He followed that up with a 7-9 effort for the stars in 1943 and is reported to have played with the Stars in 1944, although only sparse statistics are available.

He pitched briefly for the Stars in 1945 and also pitched in the Mexican League that season. Stats show him to have finished with a 10-5 record with Philadelphia in 1946, placing him in the top 5 of the league in victories. He also was among the league leaders with a 2.69 ERA. He was credited with a 2-9 record with Philadelphia in 1947 and there are no statistics from his 1948 season with the Stars -- his last in the Negro Leagues.

His career is believed to have been completed in 1952 after seasons in the Mexican Leagues and in Canada.
