Leon Brinkopf, a shortstop who played in nine games in the major leagues, died on July 2, 1998 in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Brinkopf made his major league debut on April 18, 1952 with the Chicago Cubs. He collected four hits in 22 at-bats and drove in two runs.

His last game in the major leagues came on May 5, 1998.
