>> Visit the Bo Belinsky biography on Baseball Almanac for complete statistics. Bo Belinsky finished his career with a 28-51 record as a pitcher, but he earned more of a reputation from his activities outside of the game. Belinsky was selected by the Los Angeles Angeles from the Baltimore Orioles system in the 1961 expansion draft. He came back to haunt the Orioles on May 5 of his rookie season in 1962. In that game, the 25-year-old pitcher threw a no-hitter against his former club en route to finishing the season at 10-11. After the no-hitter, Belinsky became part of the Hollywood scene, earning a reputation for drinking and pool-hustling. He also dated a number of stars including Mamie Van Doren, Ann-Margret, Tina Louise, Juliet Prower and Connie Stevens. His 8-year career included stops with several teams and he retired from the game in 1970. After his baseball days were over, Belinsky married and divorced Playboy centerfold Jo Collins. He later married and divorced heriess Janie Weyerhaeuser. They had twin daughters. In the later years of his life, Belinsky is said to have stopped drinking and got his life together. He died in 2001 at the age of 64 from a heart attack, but he had been suffering from bladder cancer. |
