Dave Bartosch, who played briefly in the majors and later became a scout, died on April 30, 2006 in Nashville, Tenn. He was 89.

He hit .255 in 47 at-bats in the major leagues. His totals include 12 hits and an RBI.

He played for the Cardinals in 1945 and then moved on to become a professional scout the next year.

While working for Cardinals, Bartosch became acquainted with Manny Guerra. Guerra was coaching his son's Little League team and Bartosch suggested that Guerra should become a scout.

That Little League team included Mike Maddux, Mike Morgan and Tom and Marty Barrett. Five other players were drafted by professional teams.

He retired from the Cardinals organization and moved to California. There, he became a scout for the San Diego Padres until he retired at 75 years old.
