Wayne Ambler, who played 271 games in the major leagues with the Philadelphia Athletics, died on Jan. 3, 1998 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

He hit .224 in 782 career at-bats and drove in 73 runs. His most productive season in the majors came in 1938 when he hit .234 in 393 at-bats and drove in 38 runs.
